YouTube publishes subscriber counts rounded to three significant figures, so the exact figure is never public. The number above is projected from our own recorded readings; the badge tells you which kind of number you are looking at, and the methodology page explains how it is worked out.
Understanding these numbers
- What YouTube’s subscriber rounding hidesPublic counts are rounded to three significant figures. On a large channel that conceals a hundred thousand people — and it is why no live counter anywhere is showing you a measurement.
- Why no two live subscriber counters agreeOpen three counters on one channel and get three numbers. Where the divergence comes from, and how to tell a careful estimate from a decorated guess.
- How to read a growth projectionA projection is a conditional statement dressed as a fact. What the number claims, why the range matters more, and the four ways these forecasts reliably fail.
- What a subscriber count doesn’t tell youThe most quoted number on YouTube is one of the least informative. What it omits, and which public figures describe a channel better.
Subscriber and view figures originate from the YouTube Data API and remain the property of their respective owners.
